BRENT

* * *

It’s a den of depravity. Teagan’s description left out a fuck ton.

All sorts of paraphernalia hang on the wall. Knives, rope, tape, hooks, things I can’t even identify. Most of them are stained red, that I can tell from this distance. But the most horrifying thing is the glass cage in the centre of the room.

And the woman curled up inside it.

She looks up at the sound of our entrance, her fuzzy green eyes bouncing amongst all of us. A normal girl would fear the sight of more people, but it’s as if she couldn’t care less. Her head lowers back to the glass floor.

“Shit.” The curse slips out easily, alongside the realization she’s not fearing us because Miller’s obviously destroyed any sense of self-preservation.

“Hold him,” I hear Hawke mutter to Ryker. From his pocket, he pulls his cell and begins snapping photos of the entire room, zooming in on the girl specifically. “This is fucked.”

“One person’s perspective,” Alex comments while in Ryker’s unyielding grip.

I glance over, noting the tight expression on Alex’s face. He’s planning, calculating, with eyes that skim us all. I know him well enough to see he’s close to snapping. Hawke is a moron for leaving Ryker alone with him. Behind them, Natalie’s basically staring at her hands or anywhere that isn’t this room.

“How do we get inside?” I ask, directing my question at Teagan.

She glances at Alex instead.

I share the fourth what the fuck look with Ryker. This isn’t the first time since arriving she’s looked to Alex for approval, and I’m now waiting for something bad to happen. Something Teagan hasn’t told us yet. I inch myself closer to her side, so I can react quicker if necessary.

“Go ahead and show them. Unlock it, babe.”

And why does she know all these codes?

Because she’s been here for years, idiot.

My body vibrates with overwhelming rage as she approaches the cage, her hand going to a keypad.

“It’s coded,” she says before touching the corner of the panel. It lights up the number pad, and she clicks the same 1-1-1-4 as before. A number clearly meaning something to Alex.

After a second, the door falls open and Teagan takes a hesitant step forward. I let her, remaining outside the cage as she slowly approaches the girl, her hand held out.

“Willow.”

Willow. It’s exactly what the girl looks like too. She’s thin as hell, likely from starvation, with the palest blonde hair I’ve ever seen falling on either side of her naked body in a curtain, as if to hide herself from the world.

She doesn’t move. Not when the door opens or when Teagan approaches her. I shoot a quick look toward Hawke, coming up beside me, ready to intervene. In his gaze, I see my own thoughts reflected. Teagan needs to be the one to save Willow.

“Teagan,” Alex purrs, whipping everyone’s attention toward him. “Babe, look at me.”

He continues to refer to her by that disgusting pet name and I wish I could rip his tongue out for using it.
